Why the issue of the planes is so important ...
It's quite simple.
The live news feed that was broadcast, that has been altered is evidence of wholesale media involvement, even going as far as the reporter in the studio telling the man on the ground in NY what he was supposed to have seen:

"I didn't see a plane, the building just exploded".
"No, we all just saw a plane fly into the building".

The other plane flying around helps create eyewitnesses who saw planes.
