Saudi Prince blames 9/11 on U.S.

Prince Bandar, aka "Bandar Bush" has moved to a soft LIHOP/negligence position on the 9/11 question. A bizarre development. The action has the effect of reinforcing the official myth regarding planes and 'hijackers' among the Arab audience; but also throws Saudi's close ally Bush under the bus. With W now a lame duck, that may have been less of a consideration.

    From ABC News November 02, 2007 :
"Saudi Prince Bandar bin Sultan blamed al Qaeda's Sept. 11 attacks on the United States' failure to consult the kingdom's security authorities in a "serious and credible manner."

"Saudi security was actively following the movements of most of the terrorists with precision," Bandar, the national security advisor to Saudi King told the Arabic satellite network, Al-Arabiya, Thursday.

"If U.S. security authorities had engaged their Saudi counterparts in a serious and credible manner, in my opinion, we would have avoided what happened," Bandar said.

Former White House counterterrorism official Dick Clarke dismissed Bandar's statement as untrue.
"The Saudis were uncooperative and did not engage in significant info sharing on al Qaeda prior to 9/11 despite repeated U.S. attempts to engage them," said Clarke.

Another former intelligence official said there is no reason to believe the Saudi government was tracking the 9/11 hijackers.

Almost 3,000 people in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania died in the 9/11 attacks. Fifteen of the 19 suicide hijackers were Saudi nationals who received U.S. visas in Saudi Arabia, according to the 9/11 Commission Report.

The Saudi Embassy has not responded to ABC News' requests for comment.

Michelle Malkin's tinfoil hat

Black-helicopter nutjob Michelle Malkin had six questions about the official story of 9/11 back in 2002.

As published the following in Jewish World Review March 8, 2002:
"What really happened on United Airlines Flight 93? [...]
What really happened on American Airlines Flight 11? [...]
Who murdered Katherine Smith, and why? [...]
Why does Norm Mineta still have a job?
Who's responsible for the anthrax attacks? ...
So where the hell is Osama bin Laden, anyway?

    -----
It is uncertain at press time whether Malkin has called for herself to be thrown into a concentration camp for articulating such dangerous thoughts.

Rosie O'Donnell doubts KSM 'confession' on ABC

    Transcript via NewsBusters:
O'DONNELL: I think the man has been in custody of the American government, in secret CIA torture prisons in Guantanamo Bay, where torture is accepted and allowed, and he finally is the guy who admits to doing everything. They finally found the guy. It's not that guy bin Laden. It's this guy they've had since '93. And look, this is the picture they released of him. Doesn't, he look healthy?

    [...]

O'DONNELL: But I think this man, for whatever he did or didn’t do, he is not the be-all and end-all of terrorism in America and our government has not found the answer and this one thing –

BEHAR: One thing: He does, he does-

HASSELBECK: But he said he was.

O'DONNELL: After hood on his head and beaten to death.

HASSELBECK: Do you know that a hood was on his head that he was beaten?

    O'DONNELL: Oh dear God, Elisabeth.

    HASSELBECK: He’s still alive.

O'DONNELL: Why, since March 2003 has he not admitted it until now?

Gitmo torture camps finally yield 9/11 confession

United States Department of Defense, March 15:
"Suspected al Qaeda operative Khalid Sheikh Muhammad has admitted masterminding the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks as well as the World Trade Center bombing in 1993.

"I was responsible for the 9/11 operation, from A to Z," an interpreter read from Muhammad's statement to the Combatant Status Review Tribunal on March 10 in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

The tribunal was an administrative trial to determine only whether Muhammad could be designated as an enemy combatant. Muhammad used the opportunity to submit, through an interpreter, a two-part personal statement with 38 terrorism-related admissions.

He led the list by pledging his jihad allegiance to Osama bin Laden and finished with an admission to trying to destroy the American oil company in Indonesia owned by former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger.

Muhammad claimed responsibility for the 2001 attempted shoe bombing of American Airlines Flight 63 from Paris.

He offered a chilling confession to "managing and following up on the Cell for the Production of Biological Weapons, such as anthrax and others, and following up on Dirty Bomb Operations on American soil."

He also named four other skyscrapers that were supposed to be destroyed in a "second wave" of attacks after 9/11. They were the Library Tower in Los Angeles, the Sears Tower in Chicago, the Plaza Bank in Seattle and the Empire State Building in New York City.

    [...]

He closed by stating that war is part of life and that it will never stop.

9/11 patsies in secret Gitmo 'trial'

    CNN, March 12, 2007:
"... Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the suspected 9/11 mastermind; Ramzi bin al-Shibh, another key 9/11 planner; and Abu Faraz al-Libby, a top al Qaeda planner, separately appeared before three-judge panels last week, Pentagon official said.

Called combatant status review tribunals, the hearings determine whether detainees should be classified as enemy combatants, who can be held indefinitely and are eligible for military trials.

The men are part of a group of 14 detainees who were once held in secret CIA prisons before President Bush ordered their transfers to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, in September.

Al-Libby and al-Shibh attended hearings Friday, while Mohammed faced judges Saturday at the U.S. detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, officials said.

Pentagon officials said another high-value detainee will go through a hearing Monday. The Pentagon did not identify the detainee.

Though similar hearings have been open to the media, last week's hearings were closed to reporters and the detainees' lawyers because of fears that detainees might divulge classified information, the officials said.

The hearings lasted between two and three hours, officials said. It could be weeks before the outcomes are known because the findings must be sent to higher authorities for approval.

All 14 men transferred to Guantanamo in September were given access to military advisers who assist them during hearings but offer no legal assistance. The men are given only an unclassified summary of the evidence against them.[...]
